Ms Sreeja Nair

As an inter-disciplinary researcher, Ms Sreeja Nair focuses on assessment of vulnerability and adaptation to climate risks and impacts and understanding policy linkages. Her major policy project experiences at the national and state level include contributions to the National Action Plan on Climate Change for India and state level Action Plans on Climate Change, Climate Risk Screening for mainstreaming adaptation and development, Coastal vulnerability assessment and strategies for better preparedness towards impacts of climate change and sea level rise along the West Bengal coast, Adaptive policymaking for agriculture and water resources and Strengthening the Information Sharing System in India to enhance the capacities of farming communities to cope with climate variability and change. Her research projects include the EU-funded HighNoon - adaptation to changing water resources availability in northern India with Himalayan glacier retreat and changing monsoon pattern, Rockefeller-funded Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network and World Bank funded project on ‘addressing vulnerability to climate variability and change through assessment of adaptation issues and options’. Ms Sreeja Nair worked with the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction and Research, Earth Institute from 2008-2009 on “Understanding El Niño TeleConnections in Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, and Asia Pacific” and “Impacts of Climate Variability and Change in Ceara, Brazil - Understanding the Institutional Mechanisms and Linkages between the Science and Policy Domains”.

She has published several papers on related issues and is a Contributing Author for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report Working Group II.



Prof (Dr) Thomas Thiel-Clemen

Prof. Dr. Thomas Thiel-Clemen teaches Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany. His research focuses mainly on modelling and simulation of dynamic, complex and self-organizing systems. Together with UNESCO, he is involved in eLearning activities with African countries. He was nominated as a full member to the Commission on Civil Protection of the Germany Federal government, recently.

He earned a Diploma degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Dortmund and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in the same field from the University of Kiel, both Germany. In Kiel he was also the head of the environmental information systems group at the Centre of Ecology

Prof Thiel-Clemen is always interested in linking Computer Science with other disciplines, thus his various projects cover research topics from climate change, ecology, psychology, disaster management etc.

Before, he had worked for 10 years as a Senior Consultant with an international consulting company.
