The Faculty of Social Studies and Humanities engages in teaching, research and consultancy activities covering a rather diverse range of academic disciplines falling within its purview. Teaching and Research address the social, economic and cultural requirements of the rapidly changing Mauritian Society which is also influenced by regional and global factors.  Whilst a large number of programme of studies at the Faculty comprise students who have recently completed secondary education, several of these are also designed to facilitate combining work and study at the University.

 

The Faculty is strongly committed to providing quality education and fulfilling the requirements for standards of excellence.   Besides revisiting, and time-tuning, our programme of studies for improvements, new programmes are also developed in response to emerging labour-market needs.

In conformity with the mission and goals of the University of Mauritius, the Faculty of Social Studies and Humanities is committed to the achievement of excellence encompassing the wide range of academic disciplines falling within its preview.

 

In this context, the mission of the Faculty is to:

 

  • Provide high quality tertiary education for school leavers and those in employment while producing graduates of international standing.

 

  • Engage in teaching, research and consultancy activities covering a wide range of disciplines in the domain of social sciences and humanities for the advancement of knowledge and policy making.

 

  • Regularly review teaching programmes to respond to the social, cultural and economic realities of the country in the context of an ever changing environment and globalisation.
