Dear Students,

As Dean of Faculty and on behalf of all Faculty members, I am pleased to extend a warm welcome to each of you to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) at the University of Mauritius.

As you start your journey at the University, you're not just joining a University but becoming part of a diverse and dynamic family committed to exploring the complexities of human society, culture, behaviour and thought. The Faculty offers various disciplines, from history, political science, and human rights to international relations, communication and media studies, psychology, social work, sociology, economics and statistics. It further encompasses literature and language sciences, in terms of linguistics, sociolinguistics, language teaching, and translation studies, focusing on various languages including English, French and Creole.

FSSH plays a vital role in teaching, research and collaboration with the industry and community. Our lecturers bring their expertise and insights into the lecture room, offering engaging lectures, stimulating discussions, and hands-on learning experiences. From introductory courses that provide a broad foundation in social sciences and humanities to specialised seminars and research projects that probe into emerging topics, our curriculum is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Faculty members are also actively engaged in innovative research that addresses pressing social, economic, cultural, political and environmental challenges.

Our alumni have excelled both locally and internationally, achieving success through further studies and securing important leadership positions. They have distinguished themselves across various sectors, holding top positions in both the public and private sectors.

You are among the fortunate ones to have obtained a seat at the University. You should be proud to be one of them!

As you embark on this new chapter at FSSH, you can be confident that you are gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to achieve your career aspirations. We are committed to supporting your growth and ensuring that you are well-prepared to join the ranks of our successful graduates. We encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available at the University of Mauritius.

As students of this Faculty, our reputation rests on your shoulders. Adhering to the university’s codes of conduct is essential in upholding the values and integrity of the academic community.

You are not just here to learn; you are here to innovate, to push boundaries, and to lead. Seek out opportunities to go beyond the curriculum - participate in internships, join student organisations, and take on leadership roles. Aim to make a difference in whatever you are doing and we challenge you to aim even higher. We look forward to connecting with you on campus and social media. You can follow the University page on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.

Thank you for being part of the FSSH family. We wish you all a fulfilling academic year ahead.
