Call for Workshop or Symposium

The Organising Committee invites proposals for running of workshops or symposia.

Each workshop or symposium should have at least 10 paper presentations.

One of the organizer/s will benefit from waiving of basic registration fee.

The organizer/s will be responsible for promoting the workshop or symposium, reviewing and recommending abstracts and full papers for the book of proceedings.

Each participant interested in submitting an abstract to a workshop or symposium must send the formatted abstract to the workshop or symposium organizer/s. If the abstract is suitable for the workshop or symposium, organizer/s should inform the participant to submit the abstract to the online submission system of the conference. If the abstract is not suitable for the workshop or symposium, organizer/s should inform the participant to submit the abstract to the online submission system to be considered for oral/poster sessions of the conference. All deadlines must be respected.

Proposals for running workshops or symposia should be submitted to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr Ponnadurai Ramasami, (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Each proposal should include details about:

  1. Title of workshop or symposium.
  2. Details of the organizer/s (name, current position and e-mail address).
  3. Brief description in about 100 words of the workshop or symposium.
  4. Participants targeting.

The deadline for proposal submission is 31st Dec 2011.

The Organising Committee reserves the right to decide about the running of workshop/symposium.

Symposium I

Title

Computational Chemistry and Biology

Brief

Computational chemistry uses of computers in attempts to solve chemical problems. It uses theoretical methods implemented in software for computations. At the outset of the 21st Century, computational chemistry is leading to a wide range of possibilities usually interdisciplinary including biology. This symposium aims to gather researchers applying computational methods at the intersection of chemistry and biology. The topics may be related but not limited to structural, spectroscopic, kinetic and thermodynamic aspects.

Symposium II

Title

Molecular recognition and Drug-Design

Brief

The design and construction of receptors for the recognition of chemicals and bio -molecules is considered very important in the field of supramolecular chemistry. The non-covalent interactions play significant role in controlling the secondary and tertiary structures of natural macromolecules such as polypeptides, and polynucleotides. The host-guest display had been exploited in the understanding of  the substrate-drug interactions in the development of chemotherapeutic and diagnostic agents. Thus, deliberation on such topic on International platform is considered quite useful.

Symposium III

Title

Recent advances in conducting polymers

Brief

The symposium will cover various new aspects of conducting polymers. Topics will include, but not limited to, the synthesis and characterization of conducting polymers, composite materials based on conducting polymers, applications of conducting polymers and of their composites. Emphasis will also be placed on computational work such as molecular modelling and simulations.

Symposium IV

Title

Green technology as a key for the sustainable development of the civilization

Brief

The topics of Symposium are the challenges of securing sufficient energy to maintain the achieved level civilization and economic development, energy security, environmental protection and ensuring sufficient food for the growing population of the Earth. Now, we have an alternative to produce more energy with more-less carbon-dioxide. That is only possible if we could change our way of energetic and economic development. The key to resolve the crises is finding green form energy and technology for the production, their development and commercialization; as well as the sustainable production of food and clean water with protection of their resources.

Symposium V

Title

Chemical Safety and risk assessment at local, regional and global levels

Brief

The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management is a policy framework to promote chemical safety around the world. Its overall objective is to achieve sound management of chemicals throughout their life cycle in order to minimize significant adverse impacts on human health and the environment. We invite contributions under the themes: risk reduction from misuse and improper disposal; sharing of knowledge and information of potential risks; good governance; capacity-building for chemical users. We expect to bring together students as chemical users, laboratory personnel from all sectors, experts and policy makers in SCM on a common platform to discuss on the current issues and ways to address the situation at the different levels

Organiser

Mrs V Dookhun, Lecturer in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of Mauritius, Reduit.

Workshop I

Title

Chemistry aid: Unlocking the potential for low-cost teaching in 3rd World Countries

Brief

Chemistry in developing countries faces unique challenges http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/Issues/2011/May/WeathOfOpportunity.asp, not least in the education of citizens to meet the opportunities that can be brought about by the exploitation of chemistry. Work in this area proceeds quietly and steadily but rarely is it showcased to the wider chemical community at international conferences. In particular it is the opening up of chemical education in developing countries which holds the key to success for the advancement of material wealth for these communities. This workshop will bring together practitioners in this field to share developments and exchange ideas for the improvement of chemical education in the developing world.
