Main Theme - National Research Week 2025
"Uniting Research, Industry and Innovation"

Deadline - Monday 07 April 2025

Vice-Chancellor’s Message

It gives me great pleasure to announce the holding of the National Research Week 2025, scheduled from Monday 14 to Friday 18 April 2025. The UoM Research Week is a well-established annual series of events where we celebrate and share the work of our faculty members and students. This year, however, there is a major change in the way we are organising the event.

As the title itself indicates, this year, the Research Week will be held as a National Event; an event that will bring together all the local public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Research Institutions as well as seek the active participation of private HEIs, to showcase ongoing research and also to discuss how research and innovation can help tackle local and global challenges.

Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, the National Research Week 2025 is being co-ordinated by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), with one day dedicated for each HEI to display, on a theme-based approach, major research and innovation projects undertaken at their respective institution and dissemination of research findings and outcomes.

The UoM is privileged to host the Opening Ceremony on Monday 14 April 2025 that will kickstart the National Research Week 2025. The official launching will be followed by a series of events to display and disseminate UoM research and innovation work and findings related to the Theme: “Innovating Sustainability: Synergies for a Resilient Future”, mainly projects based on the sub-themes of Blue Economy, Green Economy, Circular Economy and Silver Economy.

I wish to highlight here that research at the UoM is not limited to the above-mentioned areas. Our faculty members and doctoral students are engaged in a wide range of research areas, from the agricultural and physical sciences to clinical, translational and biological sciences; from engineering to computing/ICT/digital technologies and AI to the social sciences, public policy, gender and community engagement and arts and humanities.

Our aim is to increase awareness on the fact that research is not just about knowledge production; it is about societal impact. I cannot emphasise enough the crucial and inclusive role of research and innovation, which provide a common ground for Academia, Industry and the Civil Society to work in synergy to bring transformative solutions for a better, sustainable future.

During this coming edition, we also look forward to bringing to the discussion tables faculty members and research scholars from not only within the UoM but other HEIs as well, policy makers, industry leaders and relevant stakeholders from the civil society for fruitful exchanges that might open up new avenues of research and innovation, and to broaden the research scope of the UoM.

I wish all Academics, Research Scholars and Research Students from all HEIs a great Research Week! We look forward to positive outcomes following the 2025 National Research Week!
