Event Overview
The National Research Week 2025, organised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, and Research, will take place from 14 to 18 April 2025 under the theme "Uniting Research, Industry, and Innovation." Coordinated by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), the event will be hosted across various universities in Mauritius. Each day will focus on a specific theme, covering sustainability, global economic and health innovations, cultural and ethical influences in education, emerging technologies, and the practical application of research in industry. This initiative aims to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and bridge the gap between academia and industry for sustainable progress.
Day 1: University of Mauritius (UoM)
Theme: Innovating Sustainability – Synergies for a Resilient Future
This day will explore strategies for sustainable development, focusing on the intersection of environmental preservation and economic growth. Key discussions will cover green technologies, circular economy initiatives, sustainable business models, silver economy and cultural industry/economy.
Day 2: University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM)
Theme: Global Economic Interactions and Health Innovations
The second day will examine the impact of global economic dynamics on health innovations. Topics will include international trade policies, digital healthcare advancements, and economic strategies for strengthening global health resilience.
Day 3: Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) & Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE), in collaboration with Open University and Polytechnics Mauritius
Theme: Cultural and Ethical Foundations in EduTech Evolution
This day will highlight the influence of cultural and ethical values on education and technology. Discussions will focus on the evolution of educational technology (EduTech), digital learning tools, and ethical considerations in modern education.
Day 4: Université des Mascareignes (UdM) in collaboration with Polytechnics Mauritius
Theme: Tech Horizons – Pioneering Future Technologies
The fourth day will spotlight cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, blockchain, and smart systems. Experts will discuss technological breakthroughs and their implications for various industries.
Day 5: University of Mauritius
Organised by MRIC, Mauritius Institute of Biotechnology (MIBL), and Higher Education Commission (HEC)
Theme: Research and Innovation in Action – Bridging Academia and Industry
The last day will focus on the practical application of research, highlighting successful collaborations between academia and industry. Discussions will include research commercialisation, funding opportunities, and policies supporting research-driven innovation.
