Macroeconomics and Finance for PDM
The main objective of this module is to provide students with a rigorous introduction to selected topics in macroeconomics and finance which are of particular relevance to PDM. The module will also ensure that students have a common entry point into the course and the basic knowledge required to study the more advanced topics.
The module will review basic macroeconomic concepts relating to balance of payments and national accounts and will also explore debt dynamics models and ratios used when determining a country’s debt sustainability. Basic financial concepts (value of money, compounding, discounting, ways of charging interest, amortization, sinking funds) as well as more advanced ones (analysis and valuation of fixed income securities and of contingent liabilities etc.) will be discussed. The computation and interpretation of basic financial and economic ratios commonly used in PDM will also be covered.
This module could be offered online prior to the residential period.
